The Robert R McCormick Museum
Robert R. McCormick's grandfather, Joseph Medill, built the house in 1896 for McCormick's mother Katherine. McCormick acquired the house around 1910 and extensively remodeled it in 1936. Upon his death, McCormick's will established the Robert R. McCormick Charitable Trust, known today as the McCormick Foundation, which created a public park, museum, and philanthropy to foster communities of educated, informed and engaged citizens. The museum opened to the public in 1958.
Your visit, a guided tour, will explore how Colonel McCormick lived here with his family from 1936 to 1955, and you will be immersed in McCormick's legacy of journalism, history, architecture, politics, First Amendment issues, patriotism and philanthropy.
First Division Museum
Walk in Heroes' Boots!
At the First Division Museum, be immersed in the history of the U.S. Army's famed 1st Infantry Division. Be captured by the sights, sounds and soldiers' stories from the First World War through modern times. Visitors can encounter, question and form their own views of our military past and present. Watch and learn as the history of our nation's military conflicts unfolds in this distinctive museum to be enjoyed by the whole family. Outside, explore the iconic tank park featuring 100 years of armor. The museum and grounds were fully renovated in 2017.
The First Division Museum is a tribute to all those who have served and continue to serve to protect America's freedom.
