Celebrating its 65th Anniversary, the U.S. Grant Pilgrimage is a weekend full of Scouting activities. Take part in the fun, activity, and friendship of Scouting with Scouts from around the region. The number one annual Scouting event for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Ventures. There is the option to register for camping at Canyon Camp or Chestnut Mountain where the $21.00 fee includes both the Pilgrimage registration fee and the camping fee. Any other camping locations are separate and up to the unit to set up. Then come and take part in one of the Midwest's biggest and best Scouting adventures. This year's theme, Spirits of 1869, highlighting events that took place in 1869 and some of the Spirits in Galena's History. Pilgrimage Events The weekend will be full of activities: > Trail Hike Participants will receive a map with 16-18 questions. The answers to these questions are placed at historically significant places around Galena. The hike is approximately 5 miles and takes 2-3 hours to complete. Hikers who complete the trail will receive the Pilgrimage Trail medal. Trail medal is included in registration. > Bucket Brigade A team competition where the team puts out "the fire" by passing buckets of water down the line. Schedule a time at Registration between 9-11am. > Parade - > History - Hunt There will be changes coming to this activity, it will be like the Trail hike, but focused on the Generals. When complete come to the Trading Post to purchase the hat pin for $TBD. > Visiting the museums and other historical sites of Galena > Cub Scout activity area (sponsored by the Order of the Arrow) > Patch Trading > Civil War and Revolutionary Re-enactors Civil War Battle at 11:30am Original Craftsmanship Demonstrations will be held at Grant Park. Live historical exhibits will include pottery, spinning, wood carving, clay molded animals, blacksmith, broom making, buck skinner, neckerchief slide carving. Museum Tours - Included with Wristband Every registered person will receive a wristband for the various places of interest. Leaders must make sure that their Scouts receive and wear this wristband. If the Scouts do not wear the wristband, they will need to pay the full museum price instead of being admitted for free! No exceptions will be made on the admission fees. This includes adults! All youth and adults MUST register. Check-in Check-in will be at Galena High School, 1206 North Franklin St, Galena IL, 61036. Friday, April 26 - 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm Saturday, April 27 -- 8:00 am to noon Trading Post Turner Hall is the site of the official Trading Post. This is where you will be able to purchase mugs, hat pins, patches, t-shirts, and other Pilgrimage souvenirs. This is also the location to turn in your trail hike sheet to receive your trail medals. Hours Friday April 26th 4:00pm to 7:00pm Saturday April 27th 8:30am to 1:00pm 2:00pm to 5:00pm. Unit Recognition Awards Unit coming the farthest away Troop with the largest contingent of Boy Scouts Pack with the largest contingent of Cub Scouts Crew with the largest contingent of Ventures Unit must be registered by April 15, 2019. These awards will be presented at registration when those units sign-in. Pilgrimage Schedule Friday, April 26th Registration - 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm Trading Post - 4:00pm to 7:00 pm Saturday, April 27th 8:00 am - Noon - Registration 8:00 am - 1:00 pm - Trail Hike 9:00 am - 11:00 am - Bucket Brigade Relay 8:30 am - Noon - Cub Scout Activity Area - Grant Park 8:30 am - Noon - Crafter Activity Area - Grant Park 8:30 am - 1:00 pm - Trading Post Open - Turner Hall 9:00 am - 11:30 - History Hunt 11:30am -Civil War Battle along River below the Hwy 20 Bridge. 1:00 pm - Parade line up begins. 1:30 pm - Flag raising ceremony in Market House Square and Parade 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm - Resume Regular Trail Hike. 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm - Trading Post Open - Turner Hall 4:00 pm - Catholic Service St Mary's Church 4:00pm - Non-Denominational Service First United Methodist Church 5:30pm -Catholic Service St Michael's Church 6:00 pm - till done - Dodge Ball Competition Galena High School Tennis courts 7:00 -8:00 -Ghost of Galena presentation at Turner Hall (scout trading post) Sunday, April 29th Have a safe trip home Camping Facilities Check the U.S. Grant Web-site for camping facilities in the area. The State of Illinois has changed its group camping policy - no walk-ins accepted. Please contact the state park of your choice to make advanced reservations. If your unit wishes to camp at Canyon Camp, please go online to the Pilgrimage Website. If your unit wishes to camp at Chestnut Mountain, please go online to Pilgrimage Website. • Please note when camping at Chestnut depending on the ground conditions we may need to keep trailers and vehicles in the parking lot. This decision depends greatly on the weather. All to keep from tearing up the grounds, we are their guest. New Camping Opportunities. Please visit pilgrimage online registration. o West Cross Rd.
